Ray West is a dope producer out of New York, specifically the Bronx. He has been involved in music and hip hop for decades and has been enjoying some strong years recently. He started the Red Apples 45 label in 2012 to release the material he wanted to including limited edition vinyl pieces.
His style is very different from typical New York boom bap. Instead of hard hitting drums, Ray West relies primarily on sampling. That isn’t to say he doesn’t have drums that hit hard because he certainly does, but he also has a lot of laid back and mellow tracks. He is the producer for the New York supergroup Luv NY and constantly works with D.I.T.C. veterans OC and AG. Check out some tracks below.
