J57

I thought I’d run with the last post and expound on J57. As mentioned in the previous post, J57 is from the Brooklyn based group Brown Bag AllStars. A team of great emcees and producers like Koncept and Audible Doctor, the group has released some good material; J57’s last two albums, which were techinically EPs, were stellar. The 2057 EP released in 2012 saw the producer working with many noteworthy artists like Action Bronson, Maffew Ragazino, and Chuuwee. On the Wax Aesthetic EP, released last month for free, J57 decided to showcase his rapping skills over other producers’ beats. The Brown Bag AllStars and Dirty Science crews have been putting out a lot of combined material and this EP is no different. J57 can hold his own on the mic and the album has production from Exile and features from Denmark Vessey, Co$$, and Johaz. Check out some of the great tracks spanning the two projects and be on the lookout for both crews.

Dag Savage

Dag Savage is one of the best new groups doing it. The duo is emcee Johaz and producer Exile and both individuals have been relevant in hip hop for over a decade.

Johaz is an emcee in the San Diego based group Deep Rooted and Exile is a prolific producer known for his work in the group Emanon and producing classic hip hop albums in recent years. In my opinion Exile is currently a top 3 producer, along with Alchemist and Lee Bannon, and he is most known for his work on Blu’s 2007 Below the Heavens. Exile produces a variety of beats, which includes his signature vocal chopping. Since then, he has been dedicated to elevating the Dirty Science label which has seen great releases from Fashawn, Blu, and Co$$. Now Dag Savage is set to carry the torch.

Becoming an official group in 2012, the duo released an EP and the Salvation Mixtape in the same year. After releasing a stellar EP in 2013, they released anadditional  mixtape earlier this year before releasing their debut album E&J.

Although Johaz has been rapping for over 10 years, he has never sounded as good as he does over Exile beats. He raps with energy and passion as he effortlessly combines skillful wordplay and hardcore battle raps with deep introspective songs. In less than two years the group has released an amazing amount of material, and will continue to do so along with the whole Dirty Science family. Peep some of their best songs over their 5 projects.

That’s Just Life

Here’s a song that I’m feeling today more so than normal. It is a good song off the Dag Savage EP that dropped in Jan 2013, but it’s not even the best track on the album; that distinction would go to Drugs or When It Rains, check those out too. This is an uplifting song with great features. Dag Savage consists of San Diego emcee Johaz and producer extraordinaire Exile. Johaz has been around for awhile, with his group Deep Rooted, but it seems as if he has stepped his skills up exponentially in the last couple years with Exile providing him beats. Exile has been making beats for years and is only getting better as well. Enjoy.
